Use to be — A lover’s quarrel
It is now — A tender kiss and apology for pushing buttons in the heat of a trembling day

Use to be — An empty plate
It is now — A hearty breakfast on a cold brisk morning — golden scrambled eggs, home fried potatoes and warm toast with blackberry jam.

Use to be — volcano
It is now — an island with fertile rich soil to grow the veggies in our garden

Use to be — a quarter in my pocket
It is now — a contribution to the musician singing n’ playing full of heart in the train station

Use to be — a wish
It is now — a dream to hold on to during days of distress

Use to be — a blob of dough
It is now — flaky buttery pastry for the hot blueberry pie I’m about to bake

Use to be — fears of being homeless
It is now — a tent bought for discount at REI, — I’ll always have a home

Use to be — safety pin
It is now — holds my sleeves up that were too long and fell past my little hands

Use to be — wandering aimlessly
It is now — a new town full of possibilities

Use to be — an old rusty automobile
It is now — a learning tool for students in auto class at the high school

Use to be — a stranger with a story to tell
It is now — a friend for a moment of the telling.
